CHILD RIGHTS SPECIAL GRAM SABHA AND RTE WORKSHOP at Amalagondi
AKAY, a non-government organization working for village empowrment and children, organized a workshop in collaboration with CRT. It was held on 23/2/11 at Amalagondi, AKY office on “Child Rights special Grama sabha and Right to Free and Compulsory Education act"
In this workshop, 34 members participated consisting of representatives from Grama panchayath representative body and SDMC(School Development and Monitoring Committee)members from SHIBI panchayat and NGO people of AKKY.The workshop was divided into two sessions
The first session was on ‘Children and Panchayath’. On the basis of this issue, the following information was given:
What is panchayath? and children situations in panchayath level
What the panchayath act says on children
How can we change the GP to be a Child Friendly Panchayath
About Child Rights Special Grama Sabha and its process
In the second session, inputs were given on Right to Free and Compulsory Education act, it's importance, how can we utilize this RTE act.
The workshop ended with the participants clarifying their doubts on tracking school drop- outs, role of panchayat members and participation of elders in Child Rights Special Grama Sabhas.
